HX460S (Discontinued) Worlds smallest submersible 5 Watt Marine VHF 2002 NMEA Product Award Winner! SMALL IN SIZE, BIG IN POWER Don't let the size of the HX460S mislead you. While the HX460S is a mere 3.5 inches tall it delivers a full 5 watts of talking power. The unit featues two other battery extending power settings of 2.5 Watts and 1 Watt. DROP IT OR DUNK IT-THE HX460S IS DESIGNED TO TAKE IT The HX460S utilizes a high impact, non-corrosive die-cast case and chassis. This unique case insures the HX460S will withstand the physical abuse a Handheld VHF receives from being dropped or banged on the deck of a boat. Using the HX460S in the rain or in a life boat is not a issue as it can take submersions of 3' for 30 minutes. CHARGE THE BATTERY WHEN AND WHERE YOU WANT A whooping 1100 mAh Lithium-ion battery is standard equipment with the HX460S. The lithium-ion Battery provides extended hours of operation between charges. Unlike other rechargeable batteries, Lithium-ion batteries do not develop a memory when charged before being completely discharged. Additionally, our Lithium-ion battery will hold its charge even when the radio is unused for months longer than a traditional NiCad. When it is time to recharge you battery, the 110VAC or 12VDC quick charger (3 hours or less) will get you back on the air quickly. Finally, there is no surprise when the battery does require a charge: The HX460S features a unique battery life indicator on the LCD that workd like a dynamic "gas guage," indicating when the battery needs to be charged. ESSENTIAL OPERATIONAL FEATURES Although the HX460S is small in overall size, it features a large LCD window with tall, wide digits and bold information flags that are easy to read and identify. Both the LCD and the keypad are backlit for best visibility at night. BUILT BETTER, BACKED BETTER Because the HX460S is built better, it's backed better. If the STANDARD HORIZON HX460S VHF radio fails for any reason (including water damage) during normal use in the first three years of ownership, STANDARD HORIZON will repair or replace it free, without hassle or charges. If it fails any time thereafter in normal use, for as long as the original purchaser owns the radio, STANDARD HORIZON's Lifetime Flat Rate Program will cover it. The radio says submersible, what does that mean?

All of our submersible radios meet the JIS7 waterproofing standard. This means the radios were tested to withstand being submersed to 3 feet for 30 minutes.

I cannot change channels on the radio.

The radio has a function called Key Lock. Pressing and holding the button on the left side of the radio that has a key symbol operates this feature. If the LCD on the radio has a key symbol, the radio is in the key lock mode and this key must be held until the symbol is removed.

The unit is locked up and the key lock is not on.

Try resetting the microprocessor by turning the unit off, then press and hold the WX and SCAN key while turning the radio back on.

Is there an adapter to connect the antenna jack to a fixed mounted antenna?

Yes, the accessory is called a CAW230. It consists of 3? foot of RG-58 coaxial cable with a connector that connects to the HX460S and a SO-239 that connects to the ships antenna.

I plug the charging cable into the radio and the LED does not turn red to indicate that it is charging.

To make the radio LED turn from green to red to initiate charging simply turn the radio on then back off to begin the charging process.

I submerged the radio and now I do not get any audio from the speaker.

If the radio is submersed, water will fill up in the speaker compartment preventing the speaker from transmitting any audio. This does not damage the radio and water will not penetrate the radio case. To solve this problem simply turn the radio upside down and shake all the water out of the speaker compartment, you may also have to blow out any remaining water to fully restore the speaker.

I have submerged the radio and now it is stuck in transmit.

If the radio is submersed and water penetrates the mic jack cover, water may get into the mic jack and short out the PTT on the radio. This does not damage the radio and water will not penetrate the radio case. To solve this problem simply turn the radio upside down and shake all the water out of the mic jack, you may also have to blow out any remaining water to fully restore the radio.

I have purchased the SU-1 barometer and I do not have the instructions to install it.

Installation instructions for the SU-1 are contained on page 17 of the owners manual for the radio.

The radio shows barometric pressure in HPA, how can I change it to read Inches of Mercury?

The radio does not display barometric pressure in Inches, page 19 of the owners manual has a conversion chart to convert the reading from HPA to inches.
