WIRES-II Update Program, Version 2.11beta (02/7/2003).
Key Features Key Features/Fixes of WIRES-II V2.11beta:

When making a Group Call to the "B" or "C" groups, sometimes the "D" group is cut off by the software from further access. This bug has been corrected.

Added the [*] key (singly) as a "Drop the Link" command, in addition to [#99999] and [#9999D].

Added a "Beep" feedback tone to confirm either (A) the other station is "Busy" during a connection request, or (B) that the other station has gone offline after a "Drop the Link" command.

When attempting a connection, the Server ID Number of the station to whom a connection has been attempted appears in the window on the right side (before the connection is established).

Added CW Identification during connection attempts.

Added a "Chat" box on the screen (both users must be updated to V2.11beta) for computer-to-computer keyboard communication between users.

A log file of the information in the box on the right side of the screen is maintained.
Supplement to Instruction Manual for WIRES-II, Edition V2.11beta

During linked operation, the link may be terminated by any of three methods:
(A) Press #9999D;
(B) Press #99999; or
(C) Press the [*] key.

When the link is successfully terminated, four "Beep" tones will be heard.

When performing a connection request to another WIRES-II node, if that node is busy or offline, four "Beep" tones will signify that connection is not possible at the moment.

In the log window on the right side, the date and time of the establishment of the connection, and the date and time of the termination of the link, will be displayed, along with the Server ID number of the node to which you have connected.

The contents of the just-described activity log (and the "chat" window, described later) may be saved as a text file (".txt"), if desired.

To configure your software to save this text file, go to File > Property > Call Option, and insert a "check" mark in the box adjacent to the "LOG-FILE SAVE" selection. You may then insert a file name in the box below. Click on "SAVE" to save the file from this moment onward. The indication "Log File-Name Change OK" will appear, confirming that the name has been accepted.

If "No Save" is indicated regarding the log file, insert a "check" into the "LOG-FILE SAVE" and then input the file name you would like to use. Then check on "SAVE" to begin saving the file.

When WIRES-II is restarted, the log retention feature will be restarted automatically if it was active when WIRES-II operation was terminated.
If you wish to terminate retention of the lo, remove the check mark from the "LOG-FILE SAVE" box. If you have limited memory available on your hard drive, we do not recommend that you save the contents of the activity log. Or you may wish to move the contents of the current file to other media, freeing up hard disk space.

You may designate a CW Identification to be transmitted when a connection is successfully completed. The CW will be transmitted as a WAV file, per your programming of an input box on the programming screen.
To program the CW ID, go to File > Property > General Setting > CONNECTION BEEP SELECTION, and then input the desired CW string with the "@" character at the beginning and end of the string (for example, to send "DE W6DXC" enter "@DE W6DXC@" into the box. Now place a check mark in the "ENABLE/DISABLE" box, and the CW Identifier will be enabled. To adjust the delay time after the connection is established, do so via the "TX DELAY TIME" parameter setup. The default is 0 seconds.

You may establish a computer-to-computer "chat" with another node operator who is sitting by his or her WIRES-II computer. It is necessary for both sides of the "chat" to be upgraded to the V2.11beta level software in order to establish a "chat" link. The Chat Window is located below the Log Window on the computer screen. The lower portion of the Chat Widow includes a field for character input during "chat" operation.

Operation

First, you must connect to another node. In the Chat Window input box, type the node number as you would if you were calling via a DTMF pad: for example, #1101D to start a chat with node 1101D. When done with the entry, press [ENTER] or click on the "CONNECT" box. You also may connect, in the "LOCAL" mode by pressing "#1101D" on your radio's DTMF keypad.

When the connection has been established to the other node, you may type in comments, and press [ENTER] or click on "SEND" to transmit your message; reply comments will appear in the Chat Window, along with information about the date and time received. If you click on "CLR" you can clear the dialogue input box.

To terminate the chat, type "#99999" or "#9999D" or "*" on the input screen, or enter these disconnect tones on your DTMF keypad. Your comments will be maintained in the Chat Window, after the communication is terminated, until the WIRES-II application is terminated.

Note that the chat feature may only be utilized one-on-one with another node; it does not function in the FRG or SRG Group Call modes.
